How University of South Alabama calculates GPA
University of South Alabama calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The South Alabama grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: On the South Alabama scale, there is no A+ — A = 4.0 is the top grade, and there are no plus or minus grades at all.
Failing grade: University of South Alabama uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
By default all grades and attempts count toward cumulative GPA. A separate, limited Grade Replacement Policy lets eligible undergraduates remove up to 12 credit hours of repeated-course grades from the GPA.

Dean’s List
University of South Alabama names students to its Dean’s List at a term GPA of 3.50 with full-time enrollment (part-time: at least 6 semester hours).
Academic probation and dismissal
Academic probation: cumulative GPA below 2.0.
Dismissal: cumulative GPA below the minimum USA GPA for the student's cumulative GPA-hours band (see table).
The minimum cumulative GPA depends on how far through the degree a student is:

South Alabama's scale uses only plain A/B/C/D/F with no plus or minus grades at all, and academic suspension is judged against a sliding minimum GPA that rises step-by-step with credit hours completed rather than a single flat cutoff.
