How University of Southern Mississippi calculates GPA
University of Southern Mississippi calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The Southern Miss grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: On the Southern Miss scale, there is no A+ — A = 4.0 is the top grade, and there are no plus or minus grades at all.
Failing grade: University of Southern Mississippi uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
Undergraduates may repeat a course to improve a grade; the lower grade stays on the transcript marked 'Repeated' but is excluded from the GPA. Up to 12 credit hours of repeated coursework are allowed during an undergraduate career.

Good to know
Every figure here was read from Southern Miss’s own registrar or catalog. Where a rule is set by an individual college rather than the institution, the page says so instead of presenting one college’s number as everyone’s.
