How Southern University and A and M College calculates GPA
Southern University and A and M College calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The Southern University grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: On the Southern University scale, there is no A+ — A = 4.0 is the top grade, and there are no plus or minus grades at all.
Failing grade: Southern University and A and M College uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
A course may be repeated up to three times via a Repeat/Delete form; the highest grade earned is the one used in the GPA, and prior attempts are excluded from the Method II cumulative average. Both grades remain on the transcript, and attempts after the third repeat/delete are all counted.
Academic standing
cumulative GPA below 1.51
Dean’s List
Southern University and A and M College names students to its Dean’s List at a term GPA of 3.0 with 12 or more hours.
Academic honor roll — Southern does not publish a separately named Dean's List
Academic probation and dismissal
Academic probation: cumulative GPA below 1.51.
Dismissal: Suspension when, on probation, the cumulative GPA is below 1.51 and the term GPA is under 2.0; a fourth suspension is permanent dismissal/expulsion.

Good to know
Southern records two cumulative GPAs on the transcript: Method I (all hours pursued, used for graduation honors and student office eligibility) and Method II (excluding earlier attempts of repeated courses, used for financial aid and graduation eligibility).
Every figure here was read from Southern University’s own registrar or catalog. Where a rule is set by an individual college rather than the institution, the page says so instead of presenting one college’s number as everyone’s.
