How University of St Thomas calculates GPA
University of St Thomas calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The St. Thomas grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: On the St. Thomas scale, there is no A+ — A = 4.0 is the top grade, and the scale runs down to D- at 0.7.
Failing grade: University of St Thomas uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
A course may be retaken only if the original grade was F, R, D-, D or D+. If retaken at St. Thomas only the higher grade counts in the GPA; both entries remain on the transcript. A course retaken elsewhere does not replace the St. Thomas grade.
Academic standing
St. Thomas institutional cumulative GPA below 2.00 once 12 or more credits have been attempted places the student on academic warning

Dean’s List
University of St Thomas names students to its Dean’s List at a term GPA of 3.50 with at least twelve credits for regular grades (A, B, C).
Called the Dean's Honor List; no grade of D or F and no I or R marks
Academic probation and dismissal
Academic warning / academic suspension / academic dismissal: St. Thomas institutional cumulative GPA below 2.00 once 12 or more credits have been attempted places the student on academic warning.
Dismissal: Failure to earn a St. Thomas semester GPA of at least 2.00 in a fall or spring warning semester leads to suspension for one semester; failing again in the warning semester after suspension leads to dismissal.

Good to know
Latin honors require the cutoff to be met by both the overall cumulative GPA and the St. Thomas GPA, and summa cum laude additionally requires passing an honors examination.
