How University at Albany, SUNY calculates GPA
University at Albany, SUNY calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The UAlbany grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: On the UAlbany scale, there is no A+ — A = 4.0 is the top grade, and there is no D- — D is the lowest passing grade.
Failing grade: University at Albany, SUNY uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
Students may retake a course up to two times (three attempts total); only the highest grade and its credits count toward the GPA and degree credit.

Good to know
Undergraduate GPA scale uses E (not F) as the failing grade and has no A+ option at all.
Sibling campuses in the same system are not a guide here. Every figure on this page was read from UAlbany’s own registrar or catalog, because the campuses of this system genuinely differ — in the grading scale, in what counts when a course is repeated, and in where the honors cut-offs sit.
