How Binghamton University, SUNY calculates GPA
Binghamton University, SUNY calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The Binghamton grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: On the Binghamton scale, there is no A+ — A = 4.0 is the top grade, and there is no D- — D is the lowest passing grade.
Failing grade: Binghamton University, SUNY uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
Retaking a course does not replace the original grade; the repeated attempt is excluded from hours attempted, hours completed, and the GPA, so only the original grade counts toward the GPA.

Good to know
Binghamton excludes a repeated course's retake grade from the GPA entirely (the original grade stands), the opposite of Stony Brook, which averages in every attempt.
Sibling campuses in the same system are not a guide here. Every figure on this page was read from Binghamton’s own registrar or catalog, because the campuses of this system genuinely differ — in the grading scale, in what counts when a course is repeated, and in where the honors cut-offs sit.
