A+ rule: On the SUNY Oswego scale, there is no A+ — A = 4.0 is the top grade, and the scale runs down to D- at 0.67, and the failing grade is written <strong>E</strong>, not F.

Repeated courses & grade replacement
A course repeated at Oswego by a student in good standing has the new letter grade and quality points used in a new cumulative average; the previous D or E remains on the transcript, which is annotated as repeated, and its effect is removed from the GPA. Only D (D+, D, D-) and E courses may be repeated; courses with C- or better cannot be repeated. Credit hours are earned only once. A repeat taken at another institution transfers credit only and does not change the Oswego GPA.

Overall GPA below 2.0 after beginning the semester in Good Standing or Academic Warning; or, for a student already on Academic Warning or Academic Probation, overall GPA 2.0 or above with no 'Successful Semester'; or, already on Probation, overall GPA below 2.0 with a Successful Semester and a completed Academic Success Plan. A 'Successful Semester' is a semester GPA of 2.0 or above plus grades of A through D-, P, S, H or IP in 12 credits (9 for a new first-year student) when full-time.
