The Stony Brook grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: On the Stony Brook scale, there is no A+ — A = 4.0 is the top grade, and there is no D- — D is the lowest passing grade.
Failing grade: Stony Brook University, SUNY uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
All attempts at a repeated course count in the cumulative GPA; the retake does not replace the original grade.

Dean’s List
Stony Brook University, SUNY names students to its Dean’s List at a term GPA of seniors 3.40, juniors 3.30, sophomores 3.20, freshmen 3.10 with 12 letter-graded credits (including S) full-time; 6 letter-graded credits part-time.
Academic probation and dismissal
Academic probation / suspension: cumulative GPA below 2.0 (continuing students in good standing) or below 2.0 in second semester after a first-semester warning.
Dismissal: probation students who earn below 2.0 cumulative GPA the following semester are suspended; second-semester GPA below 1.0 bars reinstatement.

Stony Brook's Dean's List GPA threshold slides by class year (3.10 for freshmen up to 3.40 for seniors) rather than one flat cutoff, and it averages every attempt of a repeated course into the GPA instead of replacing the grade, unlike Binghamton.
