How Texas Woman's University calculates GPA
Texas Woman's University calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The Texas Woman's grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: On the Texas Woman's scale, there is no A+ — A = 4.0 is the top grade, and there are no plus or minus grades at all.
Failing grade: Texas Woman's University uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
Grade replacement: for a repeated course, only the higher grade counts toward cumulative GPA (transcript shows REP/MAN notation for both attempts).
Academic standing
1.8 cumulative GPA for 0-29 attempted hours; 2.0 for 30+ hours
Latin honors at graduation
| Honor | Requirement |
|---|---|
| cum laude | 3.500-3.699 |
| magna cum laude | 3.700-3.899 |
| summa cum laude | 3.900 and above |
Dean’s List
Texas Woman's University names students to its Dean’s List at a term GPA of 3.5-3.99 with 12 graded TWU semester credit hours (excluding pass/fail).
Academic probation and dismissal
Academic probation / suspension: 1.8 cumulative GPA for 0-29 attempted hours; 2.0 for 30+ hours.
Dismissal: Suspension follows failure to meet the same tiered cumulative GPA while on probation, without a 2.0-term-GPA improvement.
The minimum cumulative GPA depends on how far through the degree a student is:
| Class level | Cumulative GPA |
|---|---|
| 0-29 credits | 1.8 |
| 30+ credits | 2.0 |

Good to know
TWU uses a pure A/B/C/D/F scale with no plus or minus grades whatsoever.
Every figure here was read from Texas Woman's’s own registrar or catalog. Where a rule is set by an individual college rather than the institution, the page says so instead of presenting one college’s number as everyone’s.
