Troy GPA
How Troy University calculates GPA
Troy University calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The Troy grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: On the Troy scale, there is no A+ — A = 4.0 is the top grade, and there are no plus or minus grades at all.
Failing grade: Troy University uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
A course repeated at Troy University may have its first (original) grade forgiven from the GPA; only one repeat per course qualifies.
Academic standing
Institutional (Troy) cumulative GPA falls below 2.0
Latin honors at graduation
| Honor | Requirement |
|---|---|
| cum laude | 3.40 |
| magna cum laude | 3.60 |
| summa cum laude | 3.80 |
Dean’s List
Troy University names students to its Dean’s List at a term GPA of 3.65 with 12 semester hours.
Troy has no 'Dean's List'; it uses a Chancellor's Honor List (4.00 GPA) and a Provost's Honor List (3.65+ GPA, 12 hours) instead — Provost's List is the closest equivalent.
Academic probation and dismissal
Academic probation: Institutional (Troy) cumulative GPA falls below 2.0.
Dismissal: Escalating suspension for repeated sub-2.0 GPA while on probation: one-term suspension, then two-term suspension, then indefinite suspension.

Good to know
Troy uses only whole-letter grades (A-F, no A+/A-/D-) and names its honor rolls 'Chancellor's List' and 'Provost's List' rather than 'Dean's List'.
Every figure here was read from Troy’s own registrar or catalog. Where a rule is set by an individual college rather than the institution, the page says so instead of presenting one college’s number as everyone’s.
