UConn GPA
How University of Connecticut calculates GPA
University of Connecticut calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The UConn grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: On the UConn scale, there is no A+ — A = 4.0 is the top grade, and the scale runs down to D- at 0.7.
Failing grade: University of Connecticut uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
The most recent attempt's grade and credit count toward the GPA; the earlier grade stays on the transcript but is dropped from the GPA.
Academic standing
below 2.0 semester or cumulative GPA
Latin honors at graduation
University of Connecticut awards Latin honors by rank in the graduating class, not by a fixed GPA, so the GPA that earns each honor moves from year to year.
| Honor | Requirement |
|---|---|
| cum laude | GPA >= 3.0 and top 75th percentile |
| magna cum laude | GPA >= 3.4 and top 85th percentile |
| summa cum laude | GPA >= 3.7 and top 95th percentile |
Dean’s List
University of Connecticut names students to its Dean’s List at a term GPA of 3.0 with 12 calculable credits.
Academic probation and dismissal
Academic notice / dismissal: below 2.0 semester or cumulative GPA.
Dismissal: below 2.0 for two consecutive fall/spring semesters, unless semester GPA is at least 2.3.

Good to know
Latin honors require both a minimum GPA floor and a class-percentile rank (e.g. top 5% for summa), not GPA alone.
Every figure on this page was read from UConn’s own registrar or catalog. Where a rule is set by an individual college rather than the institution, the page says so rather than presenting one college’s number as everyone’s.
