How University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth calculates GPA

University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.

The UMass Dartmouth grade scale — what makes it specific

A+ rule: On the UMass Dartmouth scale, A+ is awarded but capped at 4.0, and the scale runs down to D- at 0.7.

Failing grade: University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).

Repeated courses & grade replacement

A course may normally be repeated once (a third attempt needs the Dean's written permission). Only the most recent grade, higher or lower, counts in the cumulative GPA; all attempts remain on the permanent record, and no course taken elsewhere can replace a UMass Dartmouth grade.

Good to know

A repeat replaces the old grade with the most recent one even if it is lower, and the university has renamed warning and probation to Academic Caution and Academic Alert.

Every figure here was read from UMass Dartmouth’s own registrar or catalog. Where a rule is set by an individual college rather than the institution, the page says so instead of presenting one college’s number as everyone’s.
