How University of Nevada, Las Vegas calculates GPA

University of Nevada, Las Vegas calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.

The UNLV grade scale — what makes it specific

A+ rule: On the UNLV scale, there is no A+ — A = 4.0 is the top grade, and the scale runs down to D- at 0.7.

Failing grade: University of Nevada, Las Vegas uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).

Repeated courses & grade replacement

Repeating a course triggers a manual recalculation of GPA and credits attempted/earned under NSHE Board of Regents rules; additional rules apply when repeating a failed course, and individual colleges/programs may add further restrictions.

Good to know

UNLV's Latin honors cutoffs are set per-college each year rather than as one university-wide GPA number, and its dismissal standard is a cumulative 'grade point balance' (deficit points), not a simple GPA cutoff.

Every figure on this page was read from UNLV’s own registrar or catalog. Where a rule is set by an individual college rather than the institution, the page says so rather than presenting one college’s number as everyone’s.
