How The University of Texas at Arlington calculates GPA
The University of Texas at Arlington calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The UT Arlington grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: On the UT Arlington scale, there is no A+ — A = 4.0 is the top grade, and there is no D- — D is the lowest passing grade.
Failing grade: The University of Texas at Arlington uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
Both attempts count toward cumulative GPA when a course is repeated (no grade replacement).
Academic standing

| cum laude | 3.500-3.699 |
| magna cum laude | 3.700-3.899 |
| summa cum laude | 3.900-4.000 |

Good to know
UTA undergraduates use only A/B/C/D/F (no plus/minus grades at all, so no A+ and no D-), unlike sibling UT System campuses which use +/- grading.
Sibling campuses in the same system are not a guide here. Every figure on this page was read from UT Arlington’s own registrar or catalog, because the campuses of this system genuinely differ — in the grading scale, in what counts when a course is repeated, and in where the honors cut-offs sit.
