How Utah State University calculates GPA
Utah State University calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The Utah State grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: On the Utah State scale, there is no A+ — A = 4.0 is the top grade, and there is no D-.
Failing grade: Utah State University uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
When a course is repeated, the most recent attempt's grade and hours are used to recalculate the GPA; the earlier attempt is marked 'E' (exclude) on the record but stays visible. Does not apply to courses designated repeatable for credit.

Dean’s List
Utah State University names students to its Dean’s List at a term GPA of 3.5 with 15 or more graded credits in fall/spring; 12 or more graded credits in summer (Pass-graded courses do not count).
Academic probation and dismissal
Academic warning / academic probation / academic suspension / academic dismissal: institution GPA below 2.00 with 36 or more attempted hours (under 36 hours it is 'academic warning' instead).
Dismissal: a student on probation earning a semester GPA below 2.00 is subject to suspension; a third suspension results in dismissal notice.
The minimum cumulative GPA depends on how far through the degree a student is:
