How University of Virginia calculates GPA
University of Virginia (Virginia) calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course's grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The UVA grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: UVA uses a 4.000 plus/minus scale; A+ and A are treated identically at 4.0 (A+ capped).
Failing grade: University of Virginia uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
Repeated courses may appear multiple times on the transcript; the registrar maintains a single cumulative GPA. Confirm repeat handling with the registrar.
Academic standing
UVA does not maintain class ranking and considers all enrolled students in good standing. Degrees 'with distinction' start at a 3.4-3.6 cumulative GPA depending on school.
Latin honors at graduation
There is no university-wide cut-off at University of Virginia — each college sets its own. The per school; College of Arts and Sciences given as the named example.

Dean’s List
University of Virginia names students to its Dean’s List at a term GPA of College of Arts & Sciences: 3.50+; Engineering: 3.40+; McIntire: 3.75+; Architecture/Education/Batten/Nursing: 3.70+ with 15 credits of graded coursework.
Academic probation and dismissal
Academic Warning (College of Arts & Sciences): GPA below 1.800.
Dismissal: Academic Suspension after Academic Warning in two consecutive semesters, or after one semester if fewer than 9 grade points are earned that semester.

Good to know
UVA uses a standard 4.000 plus/minus scale with A+ treated the same as A (4.0). UVA doesn't keep class rank, and GPA is printed only for undergraduates. Latin-honors-style 'with distinction' thresholds vary by school (typically 3.4-3.9 cumulative).
