How Western Michigan University calculates GPA
Western Michigan University calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The Western Michigan grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: On the Western Michigan scale, the scale uses half-step letters (BA, CB, DC) rather than pluses and minuses, and there are no plus or minus grades at all, and the failing grade is written E, not F.
Failing grade: Western Michigan University uses "E" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
Only the most recent grade for a repeated course is used in the GPA, unless the retake results in W, CR, or NC, in which case the earlier letter grade stays in the GPA.

Good to know
WMU uses distinct half-step letter grades (BA, CB, DC) instead of +/- suffixes, has no A+ or D-, and its failing grade is E, not F.
Every figure here was read from Western Michigan’s own registrar or catalog. Where a rule is set by an individual college rather than the institution, the page says so instead of presenting one college’s number as everyone’s.
