One of West Bengal's oldest technical institutions, established 30 November 1908 as the Government Central Weaving Institute, a two-year certificate course in weaving. Upgraded to a diploma course in 1938 and to a degree course in 1957 under Calcutta University affiliation. Renamed College of Textile Technology, Serampore, then to its present name in 2005. Computer Science and Engineering (2001) and Information Technology (2000) departments added later; B.Tech in Apparel Production Management and M.Tech in Chemical Processing of Textiles introduced 2009. Now affiliated to MAKAUT.
