Kannur University's PG CBCSS regulations use a SIX-POINT alphabetical grading scale on which the maximum grade point is 9 (not 10): A+ = 9 (90–100%), A = 8 (80–89%), B+ = 7 (70–79%), B = 6 (60–69%), C = 5 (50–59%), F = 0 (below 50%). Clause 8.5 gives the conversion as an empirical formula: Percentage of marks = (CGPA × 10) + 5 (CGPA 8.0 → 85%; maximum CGPA 9 → 95%). The '+5' makes the formula return the midpoint of each grade's marks band (e.g. grade A = grade point 8 = 80–89% → 85%), which is why it is described as empirical/approximate. Because the scale maxes at 9, a CGPA above 9 is not possible and plain ×10 does not apply. Scope: this is the PG (Department/School) CBCSS regulation; Kannur's affiliated-college UG programmes follow separate regulations and may use a different scale/formula.
