Worked example
The official Indian Institute of Information Technology Surat (IIIT Surat), Surat formula is % = CGPA × 10 (B.Tech Ordinance, cl. 7.14). Starting from a percentage of 82%, the formula reverses to a CGPA of about 8.2 on the 10-point scale. You can check this by running 8.2 through the forward Indian Institute of Information Technology Surat (IIIT Surat), Surat CGPA to percentage calculator — it returns 82%, confirming the two directions agree.
Why this is an estimate, not an official figure
A college issues your percentage from your actual CGPA, not the other way around — so reversing the formula recovers the CGPA that would produce that percentage. When both numbers appear on your grade card, always quote the official CGPA rather than this estimate.
