Why this is an estimate, not an official figure
A college issues your percentage from your actual CGPA, not the other way around — so reversing the formula recovers the CGPA that would produce that percentage. When both numbers appear on your grade card, always quote the official CGPA rather than this estimate.

Mizoram University's B.Tech. regulation (School of Engineering & Technology, 2015 batch onwards) uses a two-part conversion, NOT a flat ×10: Equivalent Percentage = 10 × CGPA − 5 for CGPA up to 9, and 15 × CGPA − 50 for CGPA above 9. The two segments meet exactly at CGPA 9 (= 85%) and the upper segment reaches 100% at CGPA 10. So a plain ×10 overstates the percentage by 5 points across the normal range (CGPA 8 → 75%, not 80%). Classification by CGPA: ≥ 8 First Class with Distinction, 6.50–8 First Class, 5.00–6.50 Second Class, below 5.00 Fail. This formula is the one printed on the MZU grade card for inter-university comparison; it is stated in the B.Tech. regulation and may differ for other MZU programmes.
