TGPCET B.Tech. R21 CBCS Regulations — Autonomy Academic Rules and Regulations, clause 21.2 (Class / Division)

Tulsiramji Gaikwad-Patil College of Engineering & Technology is an autonomous institute affiliated to Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University. Its own regulations state that "recently University Grants Commission (UGC) has conferred Autonomous to the institute for ten years from session 2021-22" (UGC Status List as on 27.08.2024, entry #532, valid to 2030-31). Clause 21.2 states: "If a student needs to convert the performance index CGPA into equivalent percentage of marks, the following formula shall be used. Percent marks = (CGPA-0.75)*10". Applies to student batches admitted from A.Y. 2021-22 onward under the R21 CBCS Regulations. ABSOLUTE GRADING on a 10-point scale (clause 17.1): O 10 at 91-100%; A+ 9 at 81-90%; A 8 at 71-80%; B+ 7 at 61-70%; B 6 at 51-60%; C 5 at 45-50% for theory but 50% for practical/project; F below 45% theory and below 50% practical. Note the O band starts at 91%, not 90% as at most colleges. CGPA EXCLUSION RULE — registry-critical: "Grade lower than C in any course shall not be considered for CGPA calculation", so failed courses are excluded rather than averaged in as zeros. CLASS (clause 21.1): CGPA 8.25 and above First Class with Distinction; 6.75 to below 8.25 First Class; below 6.75 Second Class. CONDONATION QUIRK (clause 21.3): up to 0.05 grade points is condoned for class award, so CGPA 6.70-6.74 is treated as First Division and 8.20-8.24 as Distinction, with the grade sheet marked "Division by Condonation" — but the CGPA itself is unchanged, so the converted percentage does NOT change. A student may hold First Class on paper at a converted percentage of 59.5%. Assessment: CIE 40 (Class Test 1 of 15, Class Test 2 of 15, Teacher Assessment 10) plus End Semester Examination 60. Passing requires 24 of 40 in CIE and 21 of 60 in ESE. B.Tech requires 163 credits and CGPA at least 5.25. Degrees are awarded by RTMNU. Students admitted up to A.Y. 2020-21 sat RTMNU examinations, where RTMNU Direction No. 02 of 2021 gives CGPA × 10 instead. ABSORBED STUDENTS: those switching from the RTMNU pattern into autonomy have their earlier SGPA computed as (percentage + 7.5) / 10 up to 85%, or fixed at 9.25 above 85% — the inverse of this formula, capped.
