How VEMU Institute of Technology (UGC-Autonomous), P. Kothakota, Chittoor converts CGPA to percentage

VERIFIED 2026-08-15 from the college's own VEMU-R23 regulations, read in full. || ⚠️ VEMU'S REGULATIONS PAGE IS THE CLEAREST AUTONOMY-TRANSITION MARKER FOUND IN THIS SWEEP and is worth recording as a diagnostic. Where a college lists multiple regulation generations and labels only the recent ones '(AUTONOMOUS)', the label itself dates the transition — no document reading required. Compare the SEAT Tirupati row, where the same conclusion required inspecting filenames ('JNTUA-...' vs 'B_Tech - R25 - Regulations (Autonomous)'). VEMU states it outright in the link text. || AUTONOMY: the college's campus site states 'Vemu Institute of Technology got UGC-Autonomous Status FOR 10 YEARS' — an unusually long grant, and one of the few in this registry with a stated duration. || ESTABLISHED 2008 by PROF. (DR.) K. CHANDRA SEKHAR NAIDU. 16-ACRE CAMPUS at P. Kothakota on the Tirupati-Chittoor Highway, 42 km from Tirupati, near Pakala in Puthalapattu mandal. Approximately 3,200 students and 176 faculty. || NAAC 'A+'. ⚠️ THE CGPA FIGURE IS DISPUTED BY ONE HUNDREDTH: the college's own campus site says 3.48; selectyouruniversity says 3.49. Use 3.48 (the college's own figure). NBA-accredited for CSE, ECE, EEE, Civil and Mechanical. UGC 2(f) and 12(B). ISO 9001:2015. Ranked 'A' Grade College by the AP Department of Technical Education. Careers360 'AAA' (2020). 84th in The Week-Hansa South Zone survey 2020; The Week national rank 161/245 (2024) and 187/216 (2022). NIRF submissions filed 2021-2026 across Engineering, Management, Overall, Innovation and Sustainability — a college that files NIRF consistently. || SEVEN B.TECH PROGRAMMES with codes: Civil (01), EEE (02), Mechanical (03), ECE (04), CSE (05), CS&IT (25), CSE-Artificial Intelligence (31). Plus M.Tech, MBA, MCA, and BCA/BBA (regulations 'will be updated soon'). || ⚠️ VEMU USES A NINE-CHARACTER COURSE CODE documented at §5(d) — year, programme type, department, sequence, theory/practical. Example 23MTME01T. Useful for identifying a VEMU transcript. || ⚠️ AAJTAKCAMPUS'S RECORD IS ENTIRELY WRONG AND SHOULD BE DISREGARDED: it states VEMU 'was established in the year 2001, is affiliated with Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, KAKINADA' and locates it 'amidst the lush surroundings of Peddagolkonda'. Established 2008, affiliated to JNTUA (Anantapur), located at P. Kothakota. Three errors including the wrong university — the same class of error as the Tadipatri Engineering College row. || Placements 60-90% with average ₹5 LPA and highest ₹12 LPA (2023-24). Recruiters include TCS, Accenture, Genpact, HCL, Wipro and Infosys. || The college runs a blood-donation portal (vemublood.com), a campus radio, an AICTE IDEA Lab and an international conference (ICCTSM). Merit scholarships for EAPCET ranks 1-30,000 and for students scoring 85%+.

Source & verification

own — VEMU Institute of Technology (UGC-Autonomous), Academic Regulations R23 for B.Tech, §21 Award of Class: 'CGPA to Percentage conversion Formula – (CGPA – 0.5) x 10'

⚠️⚠️ THE REGULATION STATES THE CONVERSION TWICE AND THE TWO STATEMENTS CONTRADICT EACH OTHER. §20(iv), under Computation of SGPA and CGPA, reads: 'Conversion of CGPA in to Percentage: Equivalent Percentage = (CGPA-0.5) x 100'. §21, Award of Class, one page later, reads: 'CGPA to Percentage conversion Formula – (CGPA – 0.5) x 10'. THE × 10 IS CORRECT AND THE × 100 IS A TYPOGRAPHICAL ERROR. Under × 100 a CGPA of 8.0 would convert to 750%, which is impossible; under × 10 it gives 75%, consistent with the §21 class bands (First Class with Distinction at CGPA ≥ 7.5 corresponds to 70%). PUBLISH × 10. If a VEMU student presents a transcript or a college letter quoting × 100, the § 21 clause is the one to cite against it. || ⚠️ THIS IS THE SECOND '× 100' TYPO IN THIS REGISTRY, after ALITS. It is now a recognised failure mode rather than a one-off, and it is exactly what the proposed build guard catches — see the guard note below. || Applies to B.Tech (Regular) admitted from AY 2023-24 and B.Tech (Lateral Entry) from AY 2024-25, under VEMU-R23. 160 credits regular, 120 lateral entry. || GRADE SCALE (§20): S (Superior) = 10 (≥90), A (Excellent) = 9 (80-89), B (Very Good) = 8 (70-79), C (Good) = 7 (60-69), D (Average) = 6 (50-59), E ('PASS AVERAGE') = 5 (40-49), F = 0, Ab = 0. ⚠️ 'PASS AVERAGE' IS A FIFTH DISTINCT LABEL FOR GRADE E in this registry, against 'Pass' (SVCET, SVCE), 'Satisfactory' (NBKRIST, SIETK, SVEC, SJCET), 'Below Average' (JNTUA R19, SRIT) and 'Fair'. Do not use grade labels to identify a regulation lineage. || CLASS IS AWARDED ON CGPA (§21): First Class with Distinction ≥ 7.5; First Class 6.5–<7.5; Second Class 5.5–<6.5; Pass Class 5.0–<5.5. || Evaluation is 30 CIA + 70 SEE, split 25 mid-term + 5 assignment — ⚠️ NOTE THIS DIFFERS FROM THE APSCHE NORM of 10 objective + 15 subjective + 5 assignment used by SVCE, SVCET and SJCET. VEMU drops the separate objective paper and uses 5×2-mark short answers within a 1 hour 50 minute test. Pass requires 35% in SEE and 40% overall. Attendance 40% per subject and 75% aggregate.
