How the Australia system works

Australian universities assess overseas qualifications directly, guided by the Country Education Profiles; there is no single national GPA, so most use a 7-point scale or a Weighted Average Mark (WAM).

The mapping above uses the most common Australian scale, but band cut-offs are set by each university. High Distinction starts at 85% at most and at 80% at others, and some universities use a 4-point GPA rather than a 7-point one. Treat this as a planning estimate and check the university you are applying to.

Is it competitive?

Most Australia master's programmes look for the equivalent of a US 3.0+ (an upper-second / good average), with competitive and funded programmes wanting more. Convert first, then check each programme's stated minimum. For a credit-weighted multi-course result, use the WES iGPA calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How do Singapore grades convert to the Australia system?
We map your Singapore grade to a US 4.0 equivalent, then into Australia's own scale (Australian GPA) using standard credential-evaluation bands. It's an unofficial estimate — see the table above for the full mapping.
Is this an official conversion?
No. Use it for planning and shortlisting. Australian universities assess overseas qualifications directly, guided by the Country Education Profiles; there is no single national GPA, so most use a 7-point scale or a Weighted Average Mark (WAM).
What Singapore grade do I need to study in Australia?
It depends on the programme, but a strong upper-tier Singapore result (roughly a US 3.0+ equivalent) is competitive for most master's programmes; selective and funded programmes expect more.
