OTCAS GPA Calculator

Quick answer: OTCAS recalculates every applicant’s GPA from their transcripts on a 4.0 scale: A+ and A are both 4.0, A- is 3.7, B+ 3.3, and F, E and WF are 0. Every attempt of a repeated course counts, pass/fail and AP credit are left out, and quarter hours are multiplied by 0.667. Each course is placed by its OTCAS course subject into one of 5 categories.

Unofficial estimate. OTCAS calculates your GPAs itself from your verified transcripts; the figures in your verified application are the ones programs see.

How OTCAS calculates your GPA

OTCAS: “…each A-F or 0-100 grade you entered in the Grade field is first converted to a OTCAS numeric grade value, then multiplied by the attempted credits. The resulting product is Quality Points. Your total Quality Points are then divided by your Attempted Credits to determine your GPA.”

“OTCAS calculates all GPAs in semester hours. Courses that were completed in quarter hours are converted to semester hours. The conversion ratio is 1.0 quarter hour = 0.667 semester hours.” “OTCAS does not recognize an individual school's policies for forgiveness, academic renewal, or grade replacement for repeated courses. OTCAS will verify based on how grades for repeated courses are reported on the official transcripts. All grades earned for repeated courses are factored into your OTCAS School GPA.”

“Non-graded credits are not included in your GPAs. Non-graded credits are earned credits for which you did not receive actual letter grades (e.g., advanced placement credits, "pass" or "satisfactory" credits, college board AP exams, courses taken as pass/fail, etc.).” And “…a grade of WF (i.e., equivalent of a withdrawn with penalty, withdrawn failing, etc.) is factored into GPA calculations as an F.”

Which GPAs OTCAS reports

OTCAS groups subjects into five categories. It does not publish a combination of them, so this calculator gives the overall GPA and each category GPA.

Type the course subject that matches the course on your transcript — the box suggests OTCAS’s own subject names. A subject OTCAS does not list still counts in your overall GPA.

    Worked example

    OTCAS applies one formula to every GPA. Five courses — an A in a 4-credit course, a B in 3 credits, a C in 4 credits, a D in 3 credits and an F in 3 credits — give 16 + 9 + 8 + 3 + 0 = 36 quality points over 17 attempted credits: 36 ÷ 17 = 2.12. (This is the worked example in PharmCAS’s help center; the arithmetic is the same in every Liaison service.)

    Frequently asked questions

    Does OTCAS count repeated courses?
Yes. OTCAS: “OTCAS does not recognize an individual school's policies for forgiveness, academic renewal, or grade replacement for repeated courses. OTCAS will verify based on how grades for repeated courses are reported on the official transcripts. All grades earned for repeated courses are factored into your OTCAS School GPA.”
Do pass/fail and AP credits count in my OTCAS GPA?
No. OTCAS: “Non-graded credits are not included in your GPAs. Non-graded credits are earned credits for which you did not receive actual letter grades (e.g., advanced placement credits, "pass" or "satisfactory" credits, college board AP exams, courses taken as pass/fail, etc.).”
How does OTCAS handle quarter hours?
OTCAS: “OTCAS calculates all GPAs in semester hours. Courses that were completed in quarter hours are converted to semester hours. The conversion ratio is 1.0 quarter hour = 0.667 semester hours.”
What is a WF worth in OTCAS?
OTCAS: “…a grade of WF (i.e., equivalent of a withdrawn with penalty, withdrawn failing, etc.) is factored into GPA calculations as an F.” It is worth 0.0.
Is an A+ worth more than 4.0 in OTCAS?
No. OTCAS’s grade value chart gives A+ and A the same value, 4.0.
