Singapore Institute of Technology
CGPA calculator

Quick answer: SIT grades every course on a 5.0 scale (A+ and A are both 5.00) and averages the grade points weighted by credits. A CGPA of 4.50 or more is Honours with Highest Distinction; 4.00–4.49 is Honours with Distinction, 3.50–3.99 is Honours with Merit, 3.00–3.49 is Honours.

How SIT calculates your CGPA

CGPA = sum of (grade point × credits) ÷ total credits, over letter-graded components — counting only the best attempt at each module. Pass, D^, Fail and IC results, and IP, EX, ABS, TC and W, are left out. From AY2026, only components that count towards your enrolled programme (including a minor or second major taken with it) go into the CGPA.

SIT also reports a Trimester GPA (TGPA) and a Year GPA (YGPA); the YGPA includes failed modules. Your transcript shows every attempt and your CGPA at the end of each trimester.

One credit is 25 notional hours of contact time, projects, practical work, self-study, continual assessment and examination.

Based on the CGPA at the final trimester of the programme, unless otherwise stated. Four joint degrees carry extra requirements set out on SIT’s student intranet (login required): the SIT–Newcastle University Bachelor of Engineering with Honours programmes, and the SIT–University of Glasgow Bachelor of Engineering with Honours, BSc with Honours in Computing Science and BSc with Honours in Nursing. Students in the integrated BSc–MSc in Nursing need a CGPA of at least 3.20 to progress to the master’s.

Modules taken up to AY2020

Before AY2021 SIT used a slightly different ladder: A+ and A 5.00, A− 4.50, B+ 4.00, B 3.50, B− 3.00, C+ 2.50, C 2.00, D 1.50, E 1.00, F 0.00 — no D+, and a D worth 1.50 rather than 1.00. The points line up with the current table, so for an older module enter an old D as D+ (1.50) and an old E as D (1.00) in the calculator above.

Repeats and grade-point caps

An undergraduate who gets an F may be required to take a repeat assessment; the grade point for the module is then capped at 1.00. A module graded F, D or D+ may be repeated in full with approval, and the repeat is capped at 2.00. Every attempt stays on the transcript — a repeat shows as, for example, R(B) — but only the best attempt counts in the CGPA and YGPA. In the calculator above, enter a capped repeat as D (1.00) or C (2.00) rather than the letter printed in brackets.

Passing grade

D (1.00) is the passing grade for letter-graded modules unless a programme says otherwise; some modules in joint programmes with overseas universities have different requirements. Results of F, Fail, IP, ABS or W earn no credit towards graduation.

Converting to a US GPA or a percentage

SIT publishes no percentage for any grade, so there is no official CGPA-to-percentage conversion. For a US 4.0 planning estimate, and what to write when a form insists on a percentage, see Singapore grade to US GPA.
