University of the Arts Singapore
CGPA calculator

Quick answer: UAS degrees, taught at LASALLE and NAFA, are graded on a 5.0 scale (A+ and A are both 5.00) with the CGPA weighted by module credits — and, unlike NUS or NTU, repeated and failed attempts stay in the average. A CGPA of 4.50 or more is Honours (Highest Distinction); 4.00–4.49 is Honours (Distinction), 3.50–3.99 is Honours (Merit), 3.00–3.49 is Honours (Commendation).

How UAS calculates your CGPA

CGPA = sum of (grade point × module credits) ÷ sum of the credits of every module counted. Both colleges publish this formula.

Because repeat attempts and failed modules stay in, enter every attempt as its own row — see “Repeats and failed modules count” below.

Modules carry 10 to 60 credits, and a full year is 120 credits (60 a semester at LASALLE).

Grade points

GradeGrade point
A+5.00
A5.00
A-4.50
B+4.00
B3.50
B-3.00
C+2.50
C2.00
D+1.50
D1.00
F0.00

Every module must be passed with at least a D to graduate. F scores 0.00 and, at both colleges, still counts in the CGPA.

Honours classification

CGPAClassification
4.50–5.00Honours (Highest Distinction)
4.00–4.49Honours (Distinction)
3.50–3.99Honours (Merit)
3.00–3.49Honours (Commendation)
2.00–2.99Honours

Every UAS bachelor’s graduate receives an honours degree: the lowest class is plain “Honours”, and there is no “Pass” class. A CGPA below 2.00 means the student does not graduate. “Honours (Commendation)” is a class neither NUS nor NTU uses.

Who this page is for

UAS is a private university supported by Singapore’s Ministry of Education. It does not teach its own programmes: since August 2024 the bachelor’s and master’s degrees taught at its two colleges, LASALLE College of the Arts and the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), are awarded in the name of UAS.

Covered here: UAS-awarded BA (Hons) degrees at LASALLE (students who started in or after August 2024) and at NAFA. Not covered: LASALLE students who started before August 2024, who graduate with a degree from Goldsmiths, University of London; and NAFA degrees run with overseas partners — NAFA describes its BA (Hons) Fine Art, for example, as backed by the University of the Arts London. Those follow their partner’s grading. If your programme page shows the table below, this page applies to you.

Repeats and failed modules count

Both colleges publish the same grade points and the same classes, but word the CGPA slightly differently:

CollegeWhat goes into the CGPA
LASALLEAll modules, including repeat attempts; only exempted modules and those missed with a valid reason are left out.
NAFAAll graded modules attempted, including failed modules.

In both cases a failed or repeated module stays in the average — unlike NUS, NTU or SIT, where only the best attempt counts. Enter every attempt as its own row.

Graduation requirements

From NAFA’s published graduation requirements for its UAS BA (Hons) programmes:

  • 360 credits in total (120 a year), counting exempted and non-graded credits but not the credits of repeat attempts; direct entry into Year 2 exempts the first 120.
  • At least a D in every module.
  • The non-credit UAS Common Curriculum: an IN-depth module (36 hours), a Career Skills module (10 hours) and 10 weeks (about 400 hours) of industry-based learning. LASALLE lists the same three requirements.
  • A CGPA of at least 2.00 at the end of the programme — LASALLE states the same minimum.
  • Completion within the maximum candidature: normally 3 years, at most 6 (2 and 4 years for direct entry into Year 2).

Converting to a US GPA or a percentage
